Explain butterscotch.

Well, first you have "butter" from the French "beurre". And then you have "scotch", like from the mechanic on Star Trek.
So, logically, it is a taste reminiscent of that derived when one combines rich creamery butter from Normandie cows with antimatter.
Hence the name, "butterscotch".
I thought everyone knew that.
